Brown Reunion - 2002
The Brown Reunion was held at the McCammon School in McCammon, Idaho on August 3, 2002 under the direction of Michelle Thomas Bell, President. Activities included:
Brown Family Historic Tour
Map of McCammon | Aerial of 1 and 2 | Aerial of 3 through 8 | Brave Adventurers
1 - Olive Jane Butterfield Brown's House. Built in the late 1930.
2 - Reed and Evelyn Wengreen Harris rented this house for $8 per month and then purchased it for $1,200 after Reed returned from the service (WWII). Elva Brown Wengreen lived in this house with Reed and Evelyn before moving to Provo. This house is referred to as the "Jonny Gittens House."
3 - John and Persis Thomas Home. In 1929, Elva Brown Wengreen moved in with John and Persis as times were very hard. The Thomas' had six kids and Elva had eight, making it a full house. One of the rules of the house was no peeing out the upstairs windows. There was a vacant house across the street that some of the kids would sneak into at bedtime to sleep.
This house is where Dean damaged his elbow. He was on a fence attempting to mount a horse with Buster and LaVoy sprayed the house with a water. Dean fell on his elbow. The doctors recommended amputation; however, Elva wouldn't stand for it.
Dean and LaVoy recall that Evelyn danced the "jitter bug" with neighbor Nate Edwards (born 8 Jul 1922). Best team in the high school.

4 - After John Thomas died, Persis bought this house for $500 in 1937.
5 - "Martin Home". Elva Brown Wengreen and family lived here.
6 - Dot Hale Home. Elva Brown Wengreen rented this home. Dot Hale was the son of RT Hale. RT Hale was very well respected in town. John Thomas managed the RT Hale diary.
7 - RT Hales Dairy Site. John Thomas ran the dairy. LaVoy Thomas and Dean Wengreen talked about working in the fields in the area (roughly 227 to 261 degrees from coordinates). One day Dean fell off the back of a hay wagon knocking himself out and stopped breathing. After he was revived, he walked home felling very sick.
Other day, LaVoy and Dean caught a skunk in a foot trap. In trying to release the skunk, they were sprayed. They stripped down, went to the dairy and took a milk bath. Then they went to Dean's but Elva would not let them in. Later, Persis let them in for a bath. However, it was six weeks before anybody would sit by them.

8 Last house rented by Elva before moving to Provo. The white tree in front was used to exit and enter the upper window. Elva paid $8 per month rent. Later this house became the Bishop's storehouse. Evelyn remembers skating around the block.
Across the street from this house, Stanley Thomas was killed at the age of 13. Some old gas tanks where excavated. While standing at one end of the tank, he instructed one of the boys he was playing with not to light a match when the explosion occurred. The instruction came too late. Stanley was thrown across the street. At the sound of the explosion, John Thomas and LaVoy Thomas ran down the street. The school superintendent had picked him up and seeing John, he carried Stanley to John saying, "I think he is dead." He was.
Apparently, this was the only block in McCammon at the time that had a continuous side was all the way around.
In the age of the new WPA toilets, the local newspaper reported that a new building had gone up near the Press. You guessed it; it was the Wengreen's out house.
